New Book by Piet Oudolf Features Nantucket Garden

NOVEMBER 29, 2011 – Piet Oudolf, one of the worlds great plantsmen and garden designers recently published his book “Landscapes in Landscapes“.    The book has been selected by the American Society of Landscape Architects as one of the Best Books of 2011.   R. P. Marzilli & Company worked with Piet to construct the Nantucket Garden featured in this book which includes 23 of Piet’s public and private gardens from around the world.

This seaside estate features meandering paths, long stone drives, sculpted land masses, sweeping lawns, bent grass tennis, croquet and putting greens. Approximately 7500 trees and shrubs, and tens of thousands of perennials and grasses are densely planted throughout the site.

The thousands of grasses simply bend over in the wind and are interspersed with flowering perennials.  The crisscrossing stone paths along with the thickly planted perennials create a sensation of walking through a seaside botanical garden.  Flowers are not dead-headed, which creates a wonderful winter effect when encrusted with ice over the winter months.  Piet designed a beautiful garden to be enjoyed all year round.  Enjoy Piet’s designs by visiting one of his public gardens such as The High Line in Manhattan or by reading this impressive book.
